We began building solid cherry platform beds for Scott Jordan Furniture in a shop at the Brooklyn Navy Yard after graduating from Pratt’s industrial design program in 1990. Our passion for design and continual improvement led us to research mattress quality. Our search led us to several furniture shows in Europe. We discovered a completely different approach to bedding. Complex slat systems were used rather than box springs, and ergonomically designed foam mattresses were producing the most comfortable bedding we had experienced.
During the early 90′s we developed a natural latex mattress collection in our Soho (NY, NY) Showroom. Our mattresses were outperforming conventional American bedding by at least 50% in 5 critical features. The response was fantastic. Customers would call thanking us.
Five children later…seeking greener pastures to raise our family, we moved to be with our church friends in Springfield, Ohio. Then, driven by a passion for design, quality, and value, we started Design Sleep with a goal to be Ohio’s best source for natural latex foam mattresses, organic mattresses, custom European mattresses, and platform beds.
We have chosen our location for convenience and designed the showroom to make bed shopping a pleasant, personal experience in a comfortable atmosphere, while still being close to Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati. The response has been great. People love our product and prices. It doesn't feel like work when you love what you do. It feels more like a calling than a career, knowing that we’re making a difference in peoples lives. We believe that the value of our product, our knowledge and genuine care for our customers is the cornerstone of our success.
